Statewide Food Shelf Grants
Each year, The Food Group distributes The Minnesota Food Shelf Program (MFSP) grants in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) to nearly 300 food shelves and Tribal Nation partners across Minnesota.
Minnesota Food Shelf Program (MFSP)
Governed by state statute 142.F.14, the Minnesota Food Shelf Program (MFSP) provides annual funding to support local food access. The Food Group distributes these non-competitive grant funds on behalf of the Department of Children, Youth & Families, Office of Economic Opportunity (DCYF-OEO). Learn more
Eligibility
Tribal Nations and 501(c)(3) nonprofits participating in The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
Application
Applicants must apply online every year.
Funding Schedule
Non-competitive funds are distributed annually in the fall.
- Application opens September 1, 2026, and will be accepted until September 30, 2026. All applications must be submitted by September 30, 2026.
- MFSP is a non-competitive grant that programs must apply for each year.
- Grant amounts will range from a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $175,000.
- Applications are per agency and there will be one distribution per agency. Food shelf visit statistics for all your distribution programs will be combined to calculate your total grant amount.
- Funds will be distributed November 1, 2026 (or as funds are available) by The Food Group
