Statewide Minnesota Food Shelf Program (MFSP) Grants

Each year, The Food Group distributes The Minnesota Food Shelf Program (MFSP) grants in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) to nearly 300 food shelves and Tribal Nation partners across Minnesota.

The Minnesota Food Shelf Program (MFSP), as described in the MFSP state statute 142.F.14, is available to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations participating in The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and Tribal Nations. Funds are distributed annually in the fall. MFSP is a non-competitive grant, and potential grantees must apply annually online. The Food Group distributes funds on behalf of the Department of Children, Youth & Families, Office of Economic Opportunity (DCYF-OEO).

Grant Details
  • Application opens September 1, 2026, and will be accepted until September 30, 2026. All applications must be submitted by September 30, 2026.
  • MFSP is a non-competitive grant that programs must apply for each year.
  • Grant amounts will range from a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $175,000.
  • Applications are per agency and there will be one distribution per agency. Food shelf visit statistics for all your distribution programs will be combined to calculate your total grant amount.
  • Funds will be distributed November 1, 2026 (or as funds are available) by The Food Group
