The Food Group and Hunger Solutions Minnesota Join Forces

Enhanced programs, broadened reach and deeper systems change. A new chapter in community food security begins.

We are excited to share with you, The Food Group will be joining forces with Hunger Solutions Minnesota officially starting in March 2024. Hunger Solutions Minnesota is a trusted long-time partner organization with complementary programs and a leader in anti-hunger public policy.

This deeper level of partnership, through formally combining efforts as one organization, will expand our capacity to champion food systems changes centered on community voice. Specifically, our hunger relief programs will be enhanced through the addition of the Minnesota Food Help Line, Market Bucks program, statewide food shelf data collection and reporting on hunger trends. Joining forces will also establish Hunger Solutions’ advocacy efforts as a new branch of The Food Group’s work to fight hunger and support local farmers.

Incorporating these programs and initiatives will further differentiate our work, broaden our focus to statewide impact and allow us to work more deeply on systems change through advocacy related to food, hunger and local farmers. This change will allow us to stay focused on our existing core work while deepening our impact with the addition of Hunger Solutions’ programs and staff.

The long-time executive director of Hunger Solutions and champion for fighting local hunger, Colleen Moriarty, is retiring, making this the perfect timing to join forces. Sophia Lenarz-Coy will continue as executive director of the expanded organization.

The Food Group will remain a tax-exempt charitable organization under IRS section 501(c)(3) and will only engage in lobbying efforts that comply with our 501(c)(3)status. Hunger Solutions Minnesota will continue to exist as a subsidiary of The Food Group.

We are excited to share the innovative ways that blending our efforts as one organization will create food for today and change for tomorrow. We will be sharing more information on these new and expanded areas of focus in upcoming communications.

If you have any questions about the partnership, please feel free to reach out. We’d be more than happy to connect.
