Ingredients

  • 1 lb salmon* skin on or off
  • salt and pepper to season
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3-4 tbsp oil divided
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • minced parsley optional
  • red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Season salmon with salt, pepper and paprika. Set aside.
  • In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine soy sauce, 1 tbsp oil, honey and water to make the sauce. Taste and adjust if needed.**
  • Heat rest of oil in a pan over medium-high heat. When oil is hot, add salmon skin-side up. Cook salmon for about 6 minutes, then flip over.
  • If needed, add another tbsp of oil. Add minced garlic to the pan and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add sauce and cook another 5 minutes to thicken, basting the salmon at the same time.
  • To serve, drizzle salmon with sauce and top with parsley and red pepper flakes. Serve with steamed vegetables, over rice or with a salad.

Notes

*Salmon can be pricey. If it’s difficult to access, frozen pollock fillets from Fare For All make a great substitution! Thaw the pollock and follow the recipe, cooking the pollock for about 5 minutes on each side.
**If you like lemon, add 1/2 tbsp to the sauce and serve the salmon with lemon wedges.
